Almost a quarter of public footpaths are obstructed. In many cases, they
are being deliberately, and illegally, blocked by landowners. We campaign
to keep paths open and properly maintained. |
| The Ramblers' Association campaigns to open up all public rights of way
in England and Wales and to ensure that the existing rights of way network
is protected, as part of our national heritage, and is available for everyone
to use. |
| Reporting Footpath Problems |
If you want to report a path problem you have come across while walking,
please contact us by using the the link below:
Footpath
Problem Report
enclosing as much information as possible (the date you encountered the
problem and a six-figure grid reference are very useful). |
| You can also use the online report
form on the R.A. website. |
| Details of the problem will be passed on to our local footpath secretary,
or if not within our area to the relevant group. You should also report
the problem to the relevant highway authority (county council / unitary
authority / national park authority) marked for the attention of the Rights
of Way Officer. |
| Responsibility for the rights of way network in England and Wales lies
with the relevant highway authority - county council, unitary authority,
metropolitan borough, London borough, or national park authority (by agreement).
The Ramblers' Association works to ensure that these authorities are fulfilling
their rights of way duties and defending the rights of the public. |
